WHAT I LEARNED FROM THIS PIECE:

Dragon's Pride was my first attempt at an experimental web comic. It taught me more than any other project has taught me to date. Most importantly it taught me how very important it is to pre-plan and then successfully tell a story with pictures.

DP was a failure, but an important one. I tried to plan but didn't plan enough. I started to wing it just to get pages done and that's what ultimately caused its demise. I wrote myself into a corner and was unhappy that the comic didn't go where I wanted it to.

Still I love these characters, especially Soni, and I hope to make something of the story I have for them soon. Taking what I've learned from the failed original DP comic and applying everything that I took away from the experience to make something better.

No, I'll never be satisfied, but that's all a part of growing artistically. As you read Dragon's Pride, or simply look at the pictures, keep your eyes open. Watch how my style changed, how the characters changed physically, and how the panels became more dynamic. When I look at my sketchbook that holds page one and compare it to the book that holds the very last page I was working on I can really see my self improvement... and that is why Dragon's Pride version one was a successful failure.
